Important message - paying for employment opportunities

BEL Employment Services has become aware of an opportunity that was recently advertised on UQCareerhub where the employer requested a payment from participating students in order to ‘guarantee’ a permanent paid position at the end of the internship. This position has now been removed from UQCareerhub, however we would recommend to any student who saw the advertisement and applied that they withdraw their application.

Although there are some agencies that provide a service for payment to source genuine internship opportunities, it is not common to provide payment directly to an employer in exchange for a work opportunity. If at any time you are not sure if employer requests are usual, or there is any part of a recruitment process you are uncomfortable with, please do not hesitate to contact the BEL Employment Services to discuss the opportunity and recruitment process with you.

Your accounting degree – not just a ticket to the world of audit
It’s a question that you hear a lot as an accounting student: “What service line are you interested in?” I’m the first to admit to being a little naïve when it came time to make the decision as I filled out my application for the Ernst & Young Cadet Program. Graduate Profile

What advice would you give to students searching for a job in the legal industry?

"If you think a career in commercial law is for you, then I would recommend getting some work experience at an early stage.

In particular, try to secure a place on one of the vacation clerkship programmes offered by the major law firms, which are a good opportunity to see what firms are like on the inside."
