At the national round of the 2003 Boston Consulting Group Business Strategy Competition, the UQ undergraduate team were placed second runners-up against teams from six other universities within Australia and New Zealand. The team proved they have what it takes to be business strategy consultants!
The team's coaches, Dr John Steen and Mr Peter Innes from the UQ Business School, spoke very highly of the whole team's commitment in both time and effort, leading up to the State and national rounds of the competition.
"The team was a cohesive and effective one," Dr Steen said.
"And I thought we were going to come close to winning."
He added that third to the Universities of Melbourne and Auckland "wasn't a bad result at all".
Sam Churchill, a member of the undergraduate team, said that his participation in the competition had really opened his eyes in terms of career options - to the point where he finds himself keen to pursue a management consulting career.
"Meeting the BCG people gave us all a fantastic insight into their lives and workplace - an opportunity that is as rare as it is valuable," Sam said.
"It was great to meet our fellow competitors as well, many of them like-minded students from interstate universities."
He added that overall the team members had a great time, especially celebrating in Sydney after the completion of the competition.
