UQ Business School's Dr Philip Graham was one of seven University of Queensland researchers honoured at a gala ceremony held last week as part of the 2003 UQ Foundation Research Excellence Awards for early-career researchers.
Dr Graham, who is based at UQ Ipswich, heads an international, interdisciplinary group that is developing content for the next generation of broadband Internet technology.
The significant potential of broadband internet technology across a range of systems means the development of broadband content is a hot topic at the moment Dr Graham told UQ News.
"Because of broadband's increasingly central role in economic development, cultural innovation and cultural preservation, broadband content development has become a key research priority worldwide with huge R&D potential," he said.
Professor Ron Weber, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law Director of Research, said in winning the award Dr Graham has confirmed himself as an outstanding researcher.
"Phil's winning of a Research Excellence Award is an important affirmation of the outstanding research work he is undertaking," Professor Weber said.
"These awards are highly prestigious and highly competitive.
"By winning the award, Phil has brought distinction on himself and the BEL faculty."
Dr Graham's research group is a collaboration of researchers from the Australian Creative Resources Archive (ACRA) and the Canadian Centre for Cultural Innovation (CCCI) from the University of Waterloo.
Dr Graham received $70 000 as part of the 2003 award for early career valued in total at $465 000.
