News - BEL student named Queensland CA Global Achiever

Faculty of Business, Economics and Law student Priyanka Sunder has added another achievement to her already impressive academic record by being named Queensland CA Global Achiever by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA).

Ms Sunder who has just completed her second year of a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws, will receive two weeks paid work experience with BDO Kendalls in London, and will meet with international chartered accountants to experience life as a leading business advisor. She is expected to leave for the UK in February.

"Winning the award was an incredible experience," Ms Sunder said.

"I am really excited about the prospect of working overseas.

"I hope it will give me some insight into the financial industry and help to crystallise my future career plans."

Ms Sunder received her award at the CA Achiever/Global Achiever awards held in Brisbane.

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Law was well represented at the event as 9 out of 11 CA Achiever awards were taken out by Faculty students.

The CA Global Achiever candidates complete an initial application and questionnaire with the top candidates selected for the first round of interviews with judges from the ICAA and participating chartered accounting organisations.

Finalists are then short-listed and face a second interview before the winners are announced. CA Global Achiever winners are selected on a combination of academic results, extra curricular activities and answers to interview questions.

As well as being an outstanding student Ms Sunder was a member of the 2003 Sir Harry Gibbs Mooting Team. She is also a member of the Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club and was a Queensland Youth Parliamentarian for the electorate of Maroochydore.
