You will need to check that the courses you are applying to study while on exchange are taught at an undergraduate level.
If you are unsure, please approach the UQ Abroad Office or the BEL Faculty with the relevant course outlines for advice.
Students wanting to study on an overseas exchange are strongly advised to study their CORE courses at UQ and their ELECTIVE courses overseas because:

  1. It will allow students to study courses not offered at UQ for example, studying 'Establishing the EU in Germany' or 'Doing Business in Mexico'.
  2. The course approval process is less arduous and requires less documentation for elective courses.

The following outlines the course information requirements for studying courses overseas.

Core Major Courses

Students will need to provide a detailed course outline similar to that which you receive in Week 1 of a UQ course and which includes:-

  • A list of the topics that will be covered each week
  • Level of the Course (i.e. which year students at the host university take the course), and what pre-requisites are required if any)
  • Contact HoursThe number of contact hours involved for lectures and tutorials each week and the duration of the course (i.e. whether it is a semester-long course or a year-long course)
  • Assessment InformationInformation regarding how the course is assessed, including the types of assessment and their individual weighting
  • Value of the Course (ie Credit points/ECTS value)
  • Textbook titles and the names of the authors

Elective Courses

Students will need to provide general information such as:-

  • A general description of the course
  • Level of Course ((i.e. which year students at the host university take the course), and what pre-requisites are required if any)
  • Contact Hours (The number of contact hours involved for lectures and tutorials each week and the duration of the course (i.e. whether it is a semester-long course or a year-long course)
  • Assessment Information (Information regarding how the course is assessed, including the types of assessment and their individual weighting)
  • Value of the Course (ie Credit points/ECTS value)

Dual degree students and students who do not have any electives remaining can still apply to study on exchange. It should however be recognized that some universities may not offer the core courses that students require to meet their program requirements or may not be able to provide the detailed course outlines. Students may therefore need to be flexible in their choice of exchange institution.

Please note that information required by the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law is not always provided in one document and may not be on the web. If you are unable to find the information required, please contact the UQ Abroad Office for assistance.
